Where to get a Metrocard

Person shopping

You can order a Metrocard online or in person. Find out how.

Order a Metrocard online

You can order your new Metrocard online, and it will usually be delivered within 3–5 business days. To order online you must have an active email address. If not, you can pick up a new Metrocard in person.

If you're under 25 and applying for a Metrocard online, you'll need to provide a copy of your identification with your name and date of birth. When completing the online form you will be asked to upload proof of age as a PDF or image file.

Anyone 25 or over does not need to provide ID when ordering a Metrocard online, as this is only needed to verify that the card holder is eligible for the 5–24 year old (inclusive) concession.

Pick up a Metrocard in person

You can download and print an application form (PDF file, 19KB) and take it to one of the Metro agents listed on this page for on-the-spot processing of regular Metrocards. Or otherwise the agent can supply you with a printed form to fill out when you arrive. People of all ages must please remember to bring a valid form of ID for presentation to the Metro agent. You can use a driver licence, birth certificate, passport, Cando Card, or school identification card.

Currently we do not accept postal applications.

Community Services Card holders

Metrocards are free for Community Service Card holders through the Community Connect program. These new, free Metrocards can be ordered online. Or can be picked up in-person from the Metroinfo counter at the Bus Interchange during opening hours. Remember to bring along your Community Services card to apply. Note: We cannot issue Metrocards for free at the Metro Agent locations in the tables on this page.

How much does it cost?

The standard cost of a Metrocard is $5. But they are free to Community Services card holders when purchasing a new Metrocard online or in-person at the Bus Interchange.

To activate, at least $5 needs to be loaded onto your Metrocard.
